‘Have you been diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer and want to help develop support resources?’

We’re delighted to be collaborating with researchers at Oxford Brookes University, De Montfort University and the University of Aberdeen on a new programme to develop support resources to help people diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer.

Led by Oxford Brookes, the programme aims to explore people’s experiences and views of their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, including recognising and reporting any possible signs or symptoms that might indicate a breast cancer recurrence.

The need for the project has come out of the REPORT breast cancer project being run by the same research team at Oxford Brookes University. REPORT was a two-year project to improve people with breast cancer’s confidence in recognising and reporting symptoms of recurrence during patient-initiated follow up. A number of women with Lobular Breast Cancer have already been involved in REPORT.

The researchers are now keen to hear about more people’s experiences in order to develop a more in-depth understanding of how the specific needs of people affected by Lobular can be met.

This information will help to design a future resource within REPORT and the development of potential further studies into Lobular Breast Cancer.

The new resource, once grant funding is sourced, will help people affected by breast cancer to:

  • feel more confident to be breast aware;
  • feel more confident to be able to recognise and report any possible signs or symptoms of recurrence, should they ever need to do so;
  • feel better able to cope with fears they may have about their cancer coming back.

We want to ensure that there is information tailored specifically for people affected by Lobular, so are inviting people who have been treated for Lobular within the last 10 years, and live in the UK, to take part.

This includes anyone who’s had a diagnosis of Lobular Breast Cancer as well as people who have had an initial diagnosis and a recurrence, where either was Lobular Breast Cancer.

You will be asked to take part in either an informal one-to-one interview with a researcher (via telephone or zoom) or an online (‘Zoom’) group discussion with other people affected by Lobular, whichever you prefer.

All participants will be offered £30 shopping vouchers for taking part.

There will also be an option for further involvement in the project later this year as the research grant application is developed.
