A (half) marathon effort from Ben!

Ben’s wife Annabel was diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer a year after she was told her lumps were fibrous cysts at her initial scan. Annabel is currently undergoing treatment but she is back at work, teaching, and doing really well.

On 1 March Ben took on the Brighton Half Marathon for LBCUK,

“…because I want to do everything I can to support people undergoing treatment, to raise knowledge of the challenges in diagnosing Lobular and ensure less people have to go through the pain of late diagnosis.”

Ben set an initial target of raising £5,000 but soon that changed to £7,500, then £10,000 and an incredible £13,658 was raised!

“For a small charity, such as ours, this phenomenal amount raised by Ben will have a huge impact. We’ve recently published a Lobular Breast Cancer information leaflet as well as information digests for healthcare professionals and the money that Ben has raised will help us to get these leaflets out in the appropriate settings. This is a big step in raising knowledge and understanding of Lobular as a distinct disease. We want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Ben for this incredible achievement.” – Claire Turner, Interim CEO of LBCUK

On the day of the Brighton Half Marathon, Ben finished in 1:57:21 – an amazing time and under his 2 hour target. To congratulate him and say thank you at the finish line was LBCUK trustee, Susan Barton, and Patron, Josie Lloyd, both of whom have had their own Lobular Breast Cancer diagnosis.

Well done Ben on finishing the Brighton Half Marathon and for your brilliant fundraising efforts!
