All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Breast Cancer
Last Monday, LBCUK interim CEO Claire Turner and Trustee and Co-chair Emma Amos attended the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Breast Cancer where they joined patient advocates, clinicians and parliamentarians to discuss the government’s new Cancer Plan. There were discussions about ensuring early diagnosis of breast cancer and improving treatment and support of people diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
We welcome the publishing of the Cancer Plan and the conversations focused on how we can work together to overcome the challenges in delivering the recommendations in the plan to ensure everyone diagnosed with breast cancer benefits.
At LBCUK we specifically want to see:
- improvements in the diagnosis and monitoring of both primary and secondary Lobular Breast Cancer;
- delivery on the data commitment to count the number of people diagnosed and living with metastatic breast cancer;
- better access to targeted treatments for Lobular;
- better support for people diagnosed and living with Lobular.
We’d like to thank everyone who attended and participated, especially patient advocates Bal and Laura for sharing their lived experience and to Ashley DaltonMP, Clive Jones MP and Scott Arthur MP and to Breast Cancer Now for their co-ordination of the APPG.
We look forward to continuing to work together with the APPG and partner organisations so that we can all live well.
LBCUK presents at a Primary Care Training event to over 400 professionals.
Trustee and LBCUK co-Chair Emma Amos presented at a Primary Care Training event in Bromley.
She shared with over 400 GPs and Practice Nurses the challenges of diagnosing Lobular in both primary and metastatic disease, how they can best support their patients and how they can get involved in our research and education work to enhance healthcare professional knowledge of Lobular Breast Cancer.
Emma also shared the lived experience of members of our GP Working Group, who are all GPs and Practice Nurses who have had a Lobular diagnosis.
We’ve developed three healthcare digests about Lobular Breast Cancer for you to share with your own GP and Secondary Care Team (Breast Surgeons, Breast Care Nurses, Oncologists & Radiologists). You can download them from our website or email them the link.

“As well as working with existing Lobular research institutions in the UK and overseas, we’ve seen new clinicians, researchers and organisations bringing potential ideas for developing knowledge and understanding into Lobbular. It feels a really exciting time.”

I recently attended the second breast cancer charities CEO meeting at the new National Breast Imaging Academy in Manchester. It was a real opportunity to spend time with other charities, share learning and explore ways to collaborate more.
With imaging being one of the main challenges for Lobular Breast Cancer, hearing the aims of the National Breast Imaging Academy to address workforce issues, enhance training and to become an innovative space for learning was a positive step forward.”
