A positive step forward at our first MP drop-in

On Wednesday 4 March 2026, LBCUK staff, trustees, patient advocates and researchers hosted an MP drop-in at Portcullis House in Westminster.

The Rt Hon Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, sponsored the event and was the first to drop in and see us. Helen’s close friend Heather died of Lobular Breast Cancer in 2024. Since then, Helen has committed to raising knowledge and improving outcomes in this distinct disease.

“I am supporting the [#DistinctlyLobular] campaign for better information for women and GPs on Lobular Breast Cancer about the breast changes (skin thickening or puckering, any other unusual skin changes or pain) which may be indications, and better information for women attending mammograms – a clear mammogram is not necessarily the all-clear for all types of breast cancer and we still need to check our breast regularly; and for more funding for research into bespoke treatments for Lobular Breast Cancer.”

Claire Turner, Intermin CEO of Lobular Breast cancer UK said “We were delighted with the turnout and also to all the MPs who posted about the MP drop-in on their social media channels.”

“Last month’s MP drop-in at Portcullis House was a powerful and encouraging moment for everyone involved,” said Claire Turner, Interim-CEO for LBCUK. “We were proud to bring together MPs from across the political spectrum alongside our staff, researchers, trustees and patient advocates to shine a light on Lobular Breast Cancer as a distinct and often overlooked disease. The level of engagement and willingness to learn was truly heartening, and it marks an important step forward in raising awareness at the highest level.

This event also marks the launch of our #DistinctlyLobular campaign, which will build on the momentum we’ve created — driving forward greater understanding and working towards our goal of changing the UK standard of care and treatment guidelines for Lobular.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible — from our parliamentary supporters to our passionate community — your commitment is what drives real change. Working together, we can all live well.”
