Ben Richardson is LBCUK's first ever London Marathon runner

Ben registered his interest last year for one of our London Marathon places and was successful in his application. With personal experience of Lobular Breast Cancer, Ben wanted to run for LBCUK to raise knowledge and funds to support our work.

He was inspired by his wife’s aunt and Co-Chair of LBCUK, Emma Amos.

Ben took on the challenge as a new father to a little girl and had to train through sleep-deprived days. The thought that she, and many others, could one day be affected by Lobular spurred him on.

On Sunday 26 April 2026, Ben ran the TSC London Marathon in an incredible 3 hours and 21 mins.

Ben said, “I initially set my expectation to finish the London Marathon in 3hours 30 minutes. After training since early December and across 1,000kms I managed to blow through this and achieve a finishing time of 3hours 21 minutes, which I am incredibly proud to have achieved.

The atmosphere from the very start to the finish is just incredible. The biggest standout was Tower Bridge – the noise from this section is something to behold! The start was quite tricky settling the initial nerves and getting through a very congested crowd of other runners.

Around mile 22 I managed to see the Lobular Breast Cancer team, which was a much needed boost of encouragement after the difficult section of Canary Wharf and onto what felt like the finishing straight…  although, not sure you can class 4 miles as a finishing straight but it felt like it!

For anyone thinking of supporting LBCUK next year I would strongly recommend it! The atmosphere from the very start to the finish is just incredible and something everyone should experience.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, all have been incredibly generous. On my donation page I have riased over £5,250 with a further £750 from my employer which went directly to LBCUK bringing the total to £6,044.”

Huge congratulations and a big ‘thank you’ to Ben for being our first ever London Marathon runner and for raising such a fantastic amount to support our work.
